Sólheimajökull outlet in the South – #Iceland.
The glacier Sólheimajökull is the southwestern outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. It is around 8 km long and 1 – 2 km wide. Jokulsa river discharges it, and is sometimes called “The foul River” because of its emission of sulphuric acid.
The glacier has advanced about 900 metres during the last few centuries, but has retreated from 1930 to 1964. In the 90´s it grew and almost managed to cover the Jökulhaus hill. Lagoons developed in the side valleys and one of them often emptied very suddenly.
