4days – 3 nights Summer Excursion
Photo / Photo Workshop tour
4 days Highland summer vacation combined with forgotten places, adventure and Photo / photo workshop for landscape lovers lead by the native Icelandic photographer: Rafn Sig,-.
“I will get you to the right spots for the best photographic and adventure results”.
We go from end of June, July, August and September (depends on the weather) on this trip as it is one of the best time of the year in Iceland. Endless soft light with late sunset and early sunrises are amongst the unique features that make the Highlands the most magical place for photographers and landscape lovers We will explore colorful mountains, bath in natural hot springs, visit big waterfalls, cross high mountains and go to hidden spots
You will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel. We will be staying at farmhouses and motels which is the classic Icelandic way to travel, and helps visitors feel more in tune with Iceland’s cultural traditions. Farm stay is simply a guesthouse in farm surroundings; expect comforts to be on par with those of a European bed-and-breakfast.
Rafn Sig,- is well known freelance Icelandic photographer who have
focused on the raw nature and landscape since he was a young boy.
He has been hiking in the Icelandic highlands and low lands all his live
and knows the nature and the hidden spots like a true native.
You should witness it for yourself so you know what I’m talking about .
We continue our travel to visit some of Iceland’s most stunning sights, starting with the Geysir geothermal area where the Strokkur geyser shoots a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 4-8 minutes in a thrilling display of nature’s forces. The visit continues with Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created by the river Hvítá, which tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep.
We continue our tour be stopping at some beautiful waterfalls like Faxi and Brúarfoss until we get to Gjáin.
Gjáin is a small valley with waterfalls, ponds, and volcanic structures. It is situated in the south of Iceland. It is to be found at about half an hour walking distance from the historical farm Þjóðveldisbærinn Stöng.
From Gjáin we will go to the highlands and fin our second highest waterfall Háifoss (122 m) and his Neighbor (that’s the name of the waterfall) , situated in a narrow canyon near Hekla Volcano
From there we will go to our sleeping facilities
Early morning breakfast and off we go to Landmannalaugar
This unique part of the highlands is one of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring places. Among its main characteristics are the colourful rhyolite mountains with their varying textures, shapes and sizes, and the wonderful natural hot springs, perfect for soaking in after a day of hiking.
We will spend the whole day at Landmannalaugar before we turn back to our sleeping facilities.
Back up to the highlands and straight over to the South Coast, crossing some unbridged rivers, narrow canyons, high mountains and with some stops at beautiful places.
From there we will try to go up to the mountains again to a beautiful hidden gem called Þakgil. Getting to Þakgil is also part of the adventure itself. You will see all manner of weird and wonderful rock formations, scenic panoramic views that go on forever and even the remains of no less than two movie sets, Beowulf and the American tv show Game of Thrones, parts of which were filmed right here. Before 2000, the majority of Icelanders had never been there, making this one of Iceland’s best kept secrets.
We will continue to the small village Vík, beautiful area of Reynisdrangar and Dyrhólaey when we reach our final destination of the day.
The South coast and Reykjanes will be our goal today. We start by going to the icefall at Sólheimajökull, where you can take a hike up to the glacier. We will continue to the powerful Skógarfoss waterfall. From Skógarfoss waterfall we come to another unique waterfall named Seljalandsfoss, about 30 km west from Skógar. It is 60 meters high with a foot path behind it at the bottom of the cliff, but with a thin cascade. It is the only known waterfall of its kind, where it is possible to walk behind it.
On our way back to Reykjavík we will stop at the entrance of a color full 11th-century lava cave (1360m long – Iceland’s third largest) to shoot some beautiful photos. Before we go to our last stop, which is the geothermal area in Krísuvík.
Krýsuvík consists of several geothermal fields, such as Seltún (where we will go to). Here solfataras, fumaroles, mud pots and hot springs have formed, the soil is colored bright yellow, red, and green hues. Sulphur deposits were mined in 1722 – 1728 and in the 19th century. German scientist Robert Bunsen visited the site in 1845 and, based on research there, proposed a hypothesis on formation of sulphuric acid in nature.
After a great four day trip we head back to Reykjavík with our cameras full of beautiful photos and our mind filled with cool memories.
If you want to stop on the way to take pictures.
Then we stop with a smile.
